ShelfScan ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our mobile application ShelfScan handles your information.
ShelfScan does not collect, store, or share any personal information on our servers. All data including your kitchen inventory, shopping lists, recipes, and scan history is stored locally on your device using your phone's local storage.
ShelfScan requires access to your device's camera and photo library solely to scan and identify kitchen items. Photos and videos are processed temporarily to identify food items and are never uploaded to or stored on our servers.
Images you scan are sent to Google's Gemini AI API for food item identification. This processing is done securely through our backend server. Please refer to Google's Privacy Policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy for information on how Google handles this data.
When you scan a barcode, the barcode number is sent to Open Food Facts (https://world.openfoodfacts.org) to retrieve product information. No personal data is sent with this request.
All your kitchen inventory, store lists, recipes, and scan history are stored locally on your device. We do not have access to this data. If you uninstall the app, all locally stored data will be deleted.
ShelfScan uses the following third party services:
• Google Gemini AI — for food item identification from images
• Open Food Facts — for barcode product lookup
• Railway — for secure API proxy hosting
ShelfScan is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by updating the date at the top of this policy.
